The form
Katurumuranga, which grows faster than other plants, is found in other parts of Sri Lanka except in cold climates. As it grows quickly, this plant will soon be destroyed within a few years. The leaves of the Katurumurunga plant, which is about 8 to 10 m tall, are similar to the Siyambala leaves. The tree flowers in the months of September and October.
There are four varieties of Katurumurunga. These are the four varieties of white flowers, red flowers, blue flowers and yellow flowers. Although the white and red flowering varieties are common, the blue and yellow flowering cuttlefish varieties are relatively rare. The two species used for food are white and red flowering kathurumurunga. According to literary texts, the white flowering Katurumurunga variety is used in Ayurvedic medicine. In Ayurveda, the medicinal plant Katurumurunga is known as “Agasthi”. It is called Agastya because it is located in the same way as the Agastya star in the sky. Also, the sage Agastya was a sage who looked younger than his age. This plant is also known as Agastya in that respect. Katurumurunga is a medicinal plant with many chemical properties.
This plant is also known as “Baka Pushpa” because it is a tree full of Koka flowers. Indigenous medicine uses kathurumurunga flowers, leaves, bark, roots, seeds, glue and spikes for medicinal purposes. Also, the glue of the Katurumuranga tree is used for local medicine
Properties
Katurumurunga flower leaves are a very nutritious food that contains nutrients like calcium, vitamin A, O and K.
Sesbania grandiflora(Kathurumurunga) leaves are rich in vitamins. Katurumurunga is good medicinal food for her ailments due to various deficiencies.
It can be eaten as a salad as well as mallow. There are some types of mallows that are not so good for small children. But Katurumurunga mallow has the unique ability to withstand anyone, young or old. Katurumurunga leaves are high in fibre.
Katurumurunga pods are less common in the diet. But some people do eat katurumurunga pods as food. It is very good quality and tasty food. You can make ordinary curries as well as spiral curry. You can also make a spiral pickle. It is made in the same way as ordinary pickles. Spikes and flowers can be used for pickling.
Katurumurunga flowers contain nutrients such as iron, vitamin O and calcium.
